Where Arizona's folklore lives
Arizona's official State Balladeer, Dolan Ellis, lived in this house for years and founded the adjacent Arizona Folklore Preserve, which hosts performances by talented artists most weekends — folk music, singer-songwriters, storytellers, and more, all part of Arizona's culture and heritage. Enjoy world-class birding in the morning, music in the afternoon, and come up to the inn for treats and company in the evening.
A birder's paradise
Four wooded acres of seclusion, a beautiful seasonal creek running beneath massive sycamores just below the master-bedroom deck, and multiple patios with hummingbird feeders make this one of the finest spots for birding and wildlife viewing in the canyon. It's home to the retreat's namesake, the Gray Hawk — a rare visitor to southern Arizona, with a pair that nests here during their summer migration. Wander the grounds and look for the signs of past cowboys, bandits, and homesteaders.
Included with your stay
All Gray Hawk guests are welcome up at the main Ramsey Canyon Inn lodge for continental breakfast, snacks, coffee, tea, and hot cocoa.
The Gray Hawk
The retreat takes its name from the Gray Hawk — a striking gray-and-white raptor at the northern edge of its range in southern Arizona, and a rare treat for birders. We're lucky to host a nesting pair on the property during their summer migration.
